“Hurricane Lane” sounds like somewhere in Miami that is probably best avoided, unless you’re into the EDM scene.

12 days. I leave for Hawaii in 12 days. Lane can fuck right off into the open waters of the Pacific and leave Hawaii the hell alone.

“ Hurricane Lane” is real. Except here in the Asia-pacific we never call them hurricanes. Also, they’re far meaner motherfuckers.

It’ll be long gone in 12 days. You should be more worried about your hotel getting blown off the island. Hey--maybe the hurricane will put out the volcano!

Eh, typhoons and hurricanes are exactly the same, but yes you are going to get more powerful storms due to the warm water/weather in AP.

Maybe reschedule? They are going to get roccccckkkeedd and if there is any serious damage, this administration has proven it’ll take a year or so to fix.

I remember the season before they seemed to inexplicably quit making landfall in the US years ago. It was never like the videos we see of Florida and the southeastern portion of the US in general.

You have a point there, it does sound like one.
It’s just an unfortunate name.

Ha, reschedule. Way too much planning involved to start again from scratch. It’s been months in the making. At this point it’s ride it out, or d on’t go and throw away thousands.

That’s what vacation insurance for. Months to plan? What? I’m so lost.

Hotel, excursions, child care, dog sitting, etc.
I have travel insurance, but unless the hotel is gone or the flight is cancelled, I’d have to fake an illness.

Sorry, I guess I’m getting lost on the months to plan that.
I don’t know if you’ve ever visited a hurricane rampaged island, but it is not enjoyable. I’d get in touch with your doctor if you can’t use act of god as an excuse . I’ve done a few volunteer clean ups, the locals are fully focused repairing their island while lots of things are closed down. The debris alone can takes weeks to clean .
Just a recommendation though . The sooner you divert your plans the less money you lose. Hopefully your island isn’t in the direct impact line. Last time I looked the Big Island is out of the path, but the mud slides there are an incredible high risk threat.

‘ The months’ are the fact that many things are booked months in advance. I missed out on a sub tour because when I tried to book 4 weeks ago, it was full. Hotel and flights were booked in June. Both were way more expensive to book by July.
Of course, now I bet they’re pretty cheap.
Bottom line is, if I cancel, it’ll be a full year before I get the oppo rtunity to try again.

I legitimately think you’d be better off in a year but that’s just from my experience with the islands as well as recovery volunteering . Hope the hurricane isn’t as bad as they say. I have friends that live there that say it looks gloomy as hell there. I’m legit worried for them. There were mudslides in Maui when I went and there wasn’t even a hurricane.

Kauai still hasn’t recovered from the flooding last Fall. I hope everyone has supplies. Not hopeful that FEMA will exhibit any competence handling the aftermath.

I would bring iodine tablets, toilette paper, and backpacking gear. I was just in Kauai and they still haven’t rebuilt the northern part of the island after flooding last fall. There were people living on the beach who lost their homes. Any resort area will probably be okay, but you never know what sort of shitstorm could follow.
